3 Proven Steps To Building Your Dream Website – How To Build My Own Web Site
So you’re thinking of building yourself a website. Before you even start to think about codes, and all the other stuff that goes into putting a site together, it’s a good idea to have some sort of picture in mind as to what you want to achieve; with some sort of goal in mind you’ll find it easier to get your site off the ground.
How do you go about this?
Well it helps heaps if you take a look around the web and explore other people’s sites and what they have done with theirs.
But my dilemma is that I would want to get the membership website set up and running quickly. This limits my options somewhat. My time constraints mean I can’t learn a whole programming language and although it would be useful in my profession I would only use it on the odd project so it really isn’t an option.
With this in mind my friend offered up the suggestion to use a content management system to act as a membership management software, as there are thousands of such frameworks I would easily find one that would suit my needs. He offered up a number of the more widely known options including Joomla, Drupal and WordPress. Having a little experience with WordPress I settled for this option, although I thought that WordPress would somewhat limit my membership website, with it being a blogging platform. My friend assured me that this was not the case.
Number 3: If you’re a bit uncomfortable about building a regular static web page, you can always use a WordPress blog instead of a static HTML web space. I’ve used WordPress blogs many times to build my own web site.
These blogs are easily installed, customized and easily administered by even the newest beginning webmaster. For your first site, a blog would definitely be a good way to go. Not to mention, the search engines really like blogs and, as a general rule index them much quicker than any other kind of web presence.
After deciding which plug-in to use I set up my membership site within a day. This included the course content that I had prepared for the website as well as integration with my autoresponder, shopping cart and allowing parts of my content to be viewed by visitors and search engines.
I would recommend WordpPess to anyone wanting to set up a membership website. I found it to be intuitive to use and with the plug-ins available it is easily expandable to much more than just a blogging platform
